It's snowing again
My backyard in Brooklyn. Snow all melted, then came back for New Year’s.
(Yes, I have a backyard. Hurry up and come visit. Or wait till summer when we fill it with lawn furniture and barbecue paraphernalia)

Why I Love New York: Reason 604
Because E.B. White wrote this:
“It can destroy an individual, or it can fulfill him, depending a good deal on luck. No one should come to New York to live unless he is willing to be lucky.”
Gonna need some of that good old fashioned luck in 2010 and beyond if I’m going to get where I’ve been trying to go for 10+ years (job in magazines, making a living from...

Back with J.D.
I’ve shamefully read no J.D. Salinger aside from The Catcher in the Rye. I say shamefully not because it’s the adjective a hipster lit fan might apply, but because when I first read Catcher at age 17, I responded to it more strongly than almost anything I’d read up to that point (same with subsequent reads of that great masterwork), and since then haven’t picked up the rest...

FIFTEEN BELOW ZERO?!?! And I’d almost forgotten. Yeeeez. I was dying with the temp at 19 degrees last night in Manhattan…
At least I’ll get to see beautiful...

22 Best Hot Cocoas in NYC →
But no mention of Serendipity 3’s famous Frozen Hot Chocolate? Hmm. Maybe it didn’t qualify ‘cause it’s frozen. [PS, I still need to get over to Serendipity to try this cocoatastic wonder!]

"A writer grows in Brooklyn" →
This author says:
Why have so many writers been drawn to Brooklyn ? What is it about the largest of the five boroughs that bedazzles and beguiles? What’s the allure? Is it that Brooklyn tends to leave you alone—to stay off your back, as a friend of mine is fond of saying? Or is it “the way in which the low lay of the land and open light here, the surfeit of visible sky, puts the bold frenzy...

Of all times to bash The Office, why now?
Last night I caught up on two weeks of missed Office episodes, and they left me in a state of joy. I wanted to tweet/Facebook/Tumblr my satisfaction to the world, but I settled for a “Wow, those were a great coupla episodes” comment to my roommate and went to sleep.
Will Leitch (whose work I dig, for the record) recapped the Christmas episode over at NY mag’s Vulture and...
